Mission Statement
The Remember Warsaw Funds are established for the sole purpose of supporting and promoting performances of Remember Warsaw, a classical musical drama for the concert stage. The initial goal of the funds is to raise money to help to support two productions of Remember Warsaw, one at the University of Minnesota under the baton of Matthew Mehaffey and one by the Waterbury Symphony under the baton of Leif Bjaland. Both productions are scheduled for the Fall of 2027.
The funds, in addition to covering the expenses of the performances, will be used to fully align the newly revised and rewritten libretto with the prior musical score, to augment and strengthen the orchestrations, to create a final, complete, and publish ready score that can be used for all future productions, to provide the seed money needed to do all the dramaturgy and planning for the performances, and finally to produce professional videos of the productions that can be distributed for viewing by schools, civic and community groups, and religious organizations.
Remember Warsaw needs to be performed and needs to be experienced because of the intense beauty, depth, and magnificence of the music, because of the desperate need for truth telling in these times and for all times, and because of the critical importance of the story. Evil grows in ignorance and hate. Goodness grows in knowledge and kindness.
While the narrative of Remember Warsaw is about the Holocaust, the life affirming power of hope, possibility, tolerance, understanding, courage, and love versus the impotent and devastating horror of hate, ignorance, and institutionalized racism applies to all religions, to all nations, and to all people for all times.
